As many of you know, Pensioners PayLess has found its home alongside the Pensioners Forum family, but we thought it was important to take a moment to honour where it all began and the two people who planted the original seed.
Back in the autumn of 2025, two sisters, Lirette and Maryke, noticed something while watching their energetic 76-year-old mom and her equally active circle of friends.
They weren’t slowing down — they were living. They were travelling, planning adventures, embracing life and making the most of every opportunity and discount available to over-55s.
But they also noticed something else. So many wonderful discounts and opportunities were being shared mainly through word of mouth. There were great groups and websites doing amazing work, but they saw a gap: a simple place where people could discover savings opportunities and useful information all together.
So they built one.
What started as an idea quickly became something much bigger — built with heart, long hours, determination and a genuine desire to help people live fuller lives while making their money stretch further.
Their story itself was shaped long before Pensioners PayLess existed.
Growing up in Namaqualand and the Karoo they spent most of their childhood in Namaqualand and the Karoo, where they learned to love good quality meat, vast open spaces and the value of shared humanity and with a father who was always dreaming, building and starting something new, they carried forward a spirit of entrepreneurship, curiosity and community.
Today, as Pensioners PayLess continues to grow and evolve, we wanted to pause and say thank you to Lirette and Maryke for their hard work, dedication and the vision they created.
